Installing the PatchPost Bot on Your Discord Server

Install the PatchPost bot on your Discord server to automatically post your changelog updates into your channels.

Inviting the PatchPost Bot via the Portal

  1. 1

    Find the "Add Bot" Prompt

On the PatchPost portal, look for a section or button to invite the bot (for example, a button labeled Install PatchPost Bot or Add to Discord). Click this option to begin the bot installation process.

  2. 2

    Select Your Discord Server

The portal will redirect you to Discord’s bot authorization screen. In the Add to Server dropdown, choose the Discord server where you want to add PatchPost. (Only servers where you have the proper permissions will appear in the list.)

  3. 3

    Authorize the Bot

Review the permissions PatchPost is requesting (such as sending messages, embedding links, and using slash commands). Then click Authorize to invite the bot to your server. You may need to complete a quick CAPTCHA verification.

  4. 4

    Complete the Installation

After authorization, the PatchPost bot will join your server immediately. Discord will show a confirmation message. You can close the Discord authorization tab and return to the PatchPost portal. The portal should now recognize that the bot is installed (you might see your server listed or a success message in the interface).

If you invite the bot through a direct Discord link instead of the portal, run /setup in your server to register it with PatchPost so it appears in the dashboard. Only the server owner or members with the Manage Server permission can use this command, and it will simply report if the guild is already registered.

Admin Permissions Required

To add the PatchPost bot to a server, you must have the Administrator role or Manage Server permission on that Discord server. Discord will only list servers for which you have these permissions in the Add to Server dropdown. If you don’t see your server in the list, double-check that you are logged into the correct Discord account and have the right permissions on that server.

Granting the Bot Proper Permissions

When inviting via the portal, PatchPost will request the necessary Discord permissions automatically. Make sure you approve all the required permissions during the invite:

  • Send Messages: Allows the bot to post your changelogs in text channels.
  • Embed Links: Allows the bot to include rich embeds (for nicely formatted patch notes).
  • Use Slash Commands: Enables the bot to register slash commands (like /portal or /ping) for convenience.

After the bot is added to your server, double-check the channel permissions where you plan to post updates. The PatchPost bot’s role should have access to that channel and permission to send messages there. If you use category- or channel-specific restrictions, ensure the bot isn’t accidentally prevented from seeing or posting in your patch-notes channel.

astuce

You can verify the bot is active by typing the /ping command in any channel the bot can access. The PatchPost bot should reply with a "Pong!" message, confirming it's online and responsive.

Now that the PatchPost bot is in your Discord server and ready to go, you can set up your first project on the PatchPost portal. Projects help organize your changelogs — especially if your community covers multiple games or topics. Continue to Creating New Projects in PatchPost.
