Creating New Projects in PatchPost

Projects organize your patch notes by game or topic, keeping updates tidy and easy for your community to follow.

What Is a Project in PatchPost?

A "Project" typically represents a game, mod, or any product for which you’ll be posting updates. Each project contains its own changelogs (patch notes), so your community can focus on updates relevant to that specific topic. Projects are tied to a Discord server — when you publish an update, it is posted to that server’s channel (which you select when creating the project).

Steps to Create a New Project

  1. 1

    Open the Projects Page

In the PatchPost portal, navigate to the Projects section for your server. If you manage multiple Discord servers with PatchPost, make sure the correct server is selected. (If you just installed PatchPost on a server, the portal will now list that server.) Once the desired server is selected, go to its Projects list (often accessible via a sidebar menu or a tab on the dashboard).

  2. 2

    Initiate a New Project

Click the New Project button (or a similar option like Create Project). This will open a form where you can set up the details for the new project.

  3. 3

    Name Your Project

Enter a name for your project. Choose something descriptive — for example, the name of your game, mod, or feature set. This name will help you identify the project in the portal and may be visible to your community as part of the changelog titles.

  4. 4

    Select a Channel for Updates

Choose the Discord text channel where you want this project’s changelogs to be posted. There will be a dropdown listing channels from your server. Pick a channel that your community can access (for example, #patch-notes or #announcements). If you don’t see a dropdown, you might need to enter a channel ID manually, but typically the portal will list your available channels.

  5. 5

    (Optional) Set a Title Prefix

PatchPost can prefix your changelog announcements with a project title. In the project creation form, you may see a field for an optional Project Title or prefix. If you fill this in, PatchPost will include this text in the embed title for each changelog. For example, if your project title is "MyGame", an update might appear as "MyGame Changelog v1.2.3" in Discord. If you leave it blank, the embed title will just say "Changelog vX.Y.Z" without a prefix.

  6. 6

    Save the Project

Click Create (or Save Project) to finish creating the project. The portal will add the new project to your server’s project list. You should now see the project appear in the list, associated with the Discord channel you selected.

tip

Consider creating a dedicated Discord channel (for example, #patch-notes) for your PatchPost updates. This keeps your announcements organized and easy to find.

After Creating a Project

Once your project is created, it will show up in the Projects list on the portal (likely as a card or row displaying the project’s name and the channel it's linked to). At this point, you've set up a container for your patch notes. If this is the first project on this server, the PatchPost portal may indicate that your server setup is now complete.

From now on, you can create changelogs under this project, and PatchPost will deliver them to the specified channel via the bot. You can repeat the above steps to create additional projects for other games or topics on the same server — the PatchPost bot can handle multiple projects in one Discord server. Each project can even use a different channel if you want to keep their announcements separate.

Now that you have a project set up, you're ready to create and publish a changelog for your community. Continue to Creating and Publishing Changelogs.
